Reading Reflection No.3

1)
·       What surprised you the most?
There were a couple of things that surprised me when I read this book the first interesting thing was that Steve Jobs was actually adopted, I thought that was surprising because I never knew that. Another thing that surprised me was that he was a very solitude type of person and worked best when he was by himself.

·       What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
I admired his raw talent and his motivation to be great. He was a very self-motivated person and was extremely brilliant. He dropped out of college and still became a successful business man.

·       What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
His situation with his business partner did not end the way it should have. Steve Jobs could have acted in a more mature manner and could have come to a better conclusion with Steve Wozniak.

·       Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Steve Jobs experienced many adversity challenges throughout his life and career, from not finishing school to getting kicked out of his own company ultimately, I would say that Jobs experience many negative experiences in his life. However, through his hard work and determination, Jobs was able to grind it out and get what he desired.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
I would have to say that Jobs was very creative and would be willing to do anything in order to gain a more creative mind. He was so determined that he did drugs in order to see if it would unlock any hidden creative ideas, in some cases it even worked. He was also great at motivation and often got people to work hard and efficiently.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
I feel that they could have explained more on the reasons and why he was let go from his company.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
One question I would have liked to ask is where he thought our technology would be in the next 50 years. He was a very creative person and I would wonder what his vision of the future would be like. Another question I would have asked him is how he dealt with his failures and getting fired from his company.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?

I think his opinion of hard work is to never give up. It took him years in order to build a brand and be a successful business man. He was motivated and knew what he wanted. Never give up and work for what you believe in.

  1. Hey conner,
I too read the book Steve Jobs for my reading reflection number three. Finding out that he was adopted was shocking yet, inspiring. He showed that how an individual can have a non traditional child hood and still grow up to be wildly, unimaginably successful. I also think he thought it best to never give up when he committed his mind to something. Probably the driving force behind his success.

  2. Conner,
You talk about your admiration for Steve Jobs "raw talent" in this post. I absolutely love that phrase. I think it truly encompasses the intelligence that Jobs had as an entrepreneur. People seem to think of some of the extremely successful people as folks that have it all together and have the world figured it out. That just simply isn't the case and especially not in this instance with the example being Steve Jobs. You do a great job of highlighting that with two simple words. That is some powerful writing on your part and you should continue to use words like that.
