Testing the Hypothesis Part 1
Parking Garage Model for Gainesville, FL
·
Opportunity:
o
In certain areas in the Gainesville community
parking is a hard to find and it is a daily struggle for many college students.
§
The Who: Those who do not have permanent in their
apartment complex
§
The What: They are forced to find parking on the
street, and most times it is hard to find a spot to park.
§
The Why: Apartment complex’s do not offer enough
parking spots for all of their tenants.
·
Testing the Who: In certain areas, it is
extremely hard to find public parking and if you do not have a permanent
parking spot, you can easily find yourself searching endlessly. The who is all
of those who are left out of having a parking spot and need a safe and consistent
place to park your car.
·
Testing the What: Although many college students
don’t own cars there are still a vast amount that do and are affected by not
having parking. The worst is when you move your car from a parking spot and
later that night you try and find a spot relatively close and there’s nothing there.
Manny times students are forced to park in the street far away from their
apartments and end up walking alone at night.
·
Testing the Why: The why is because it is not
only annoying to not have a parking spot for yourself but it’s also stressful.
Most college students should have to stress about parking, there are 100 things
more they should be worried about. By providing a parking spot it will give
them one less thing to stress out about.
Interview’s:
1) For
this interview, I talked to a friend who is without a parking spot and is
always frustrated about it. This person is more than willing to pay 50$ a month
to have his car in a parking spot, as long as the location is close. Furthermore,
he insisted that it would have to be per month base and could not get locked
into anything (wouldn’t want to pay for summer months and possibly December).
2) For
this interview, I talked to a friend who lives in Miami and attends the
University of Miami. During this interview, I talked to him about how the
parking was in Miami and if there was a similar need for students. He stated
that parking is barely and issue for students and says that for the most part
parking is good around UM is nothing how it is in Gainesville.
3) For
this interview, I talked to a mom whose daughter attends UF. Although her
daughter has a parking spot now, she was without a parking spot the previous
two year. She stated that at the time she would have paid whatever to make sure
that her daughter had a parking spot all the time. Her only two comments were,
it had to be relatively close, and at night there was a security guard.
4) For
this interview, I talked to my own mom to see if she would be willing to pay
for a parking space for me. She stated that she would have done it if it was an
absolute need and only if it was stressing me out. She also stated that she
would not be willing to pay over 50$ a month and would be willing to sign a
parking lease only if it was significantly cheaper per month.
5) For
this interview, I talked to my friend who is currently living with three other
girls and does not have a parking spot and relies on public parking. She talked
to me how it dictates most of her day, she figured out good times to go places
so that when she returns she still has a close parking spot.
Reflection of Interviews:
After
interviewing five more people I learned a great amount about this opportunity.
I feel that the opportunity not only exist in Gainesville, but has the
potential to exist in other locations all around the country. Therefore, I
should also look into other college towns where parking is an issue. Furthermore,
I learned that this would not be for every person who is excluded with a
parking spot. In order for this opportunity to work I would need seek out those
who are financially dependent on their guardians.
I can tell that you did a lot of researcher on your topic and that you tried to interview people with different perspectives. I thought that since you interviewed so many different kinds of people that were different ages it allowed you to really get different perspectives on the product and how useful it would be. I definitely think that this product would be useful, especially when thinking about how difficult it is to park in Gainesville. Great post!
