My father is the most hardworking man that I will ever get to know. To me, my father is the definition of hard work. My father grew up in Richmond California to a mother who was only sixteen years older than him. My father tells me that he had been working ever since he could remember, whether it was washing dishes, working on cars, or working construction. When he started high school, he got a night job with Colgate and worked the night shift as a fork lift driver. He would start at 9:00 pm and work until 5:30 am, then go to school at 8:00 am.
Consequently, it took him 5 years to graduate from high school. After graduation, he then moved to Kanas City Missouri with my mom and opened up his own construction company with a partner. After a couple of years of working in Kansas City my parents my older brother Drew.
In the middle of August in 1992 my dad saw an opportunity that he could not resist, Hurricane Andrew. After the storm went through Miami my father got on a plane and went to go look at the infrastructure that was left. My dad saw the opportunity to open his own construction company in Miami. He put all of his money on the line. He bought a house that was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew and moved my mom and brother down. They lived in a trailer for a whole year until the house was built. My father’s hard work paid off as his company started to turn into a success. Today my father still has his company and works just as hard as he did as a young man, although he does not have to. I am beyond blessed to have him as my father. He does not consider himself an entrepreneur (even though he is) and does not take credit for his hard work. If he was asked, he would respond with “That’s just the way business Is done”.
I am beyond excited to go home and start to work for my father. Him and I have a solid relationship and I am cannot wait for him to teach me more of his business.  I enrolled in this class because one day my father’s company will be my company and I want to see it grow and get even bigger than what it is.  It is only week two and feel that I have already learned valuable lessons that one day I will be able to apply.

  1. Hello Connor,
Your fathers story is a great one and it helps to prove that the American dream is still alive and well. I firmly believe that in order to succeed as an entrepreneur, one must work tirelessly and take calculated risks. You're father did just that. Also, I can personally relate to your story because my grandfather started his own business and was the hardest working guy that I knew. Lastly, great Wahoo!

  2. Conner,

There is no doubt that your father is also one of the most hardworking people I have ever met. His story definitely inspire me whatever him as a father or an entrepreneur. In my opinion, hardworking is the foundation of everything, so I think his success is inevitable. I also admire his modesty because you said that he never called him an entrepreneur even though he is. I really like your father's story and also your picture. Great work!
